Location: Prairie Commons Library (Large room)
915 Utz Lane, Hazelwood, MO 63042
Demonstration:  Pointillism with Christine Curtz-Casten
In this demonstration, Christine will share her pointillism technique which she first explored in 1988 after seeing contemporary Australian Aboriginal art at the Austral Gallery. She uses chopsticks and acrylic paint on a variety of surfaces, including canvas, birch board, wooden object, cloth, glass -- about anything that doesn't run away. She's recently experimented with pouring medium, tar gel, etc. and will show some results. In addition to her pointillism work, she will offer a brief overview of other fun methods she's used to let off steam. Having recently completed a Femmage for show consideration, she will share a bit of that intense experience and what she has learned along the way. Each attending member will receive a small canvas and chopsticks for home use compliments of Christine!

Artist Christine Kurtz-Casten has enjoyed working with art materials since she was a child. In college, she drew logos for campus clubs and illustrated the anthropology department publications. Later, as a Master Gardener for the Missouri Botanical Garden (1986-2006), she used her photographs for lectures and displays. Christine painted a bit in the late eighties but art took a back seat to life for over twenty years.

On January 1st, 2013, Christine decided it was time to explore her creative side once again. It has been a thrilling two years for Christine. She volunteers at the Foundry Art Centre in St Charles and has entered shows locally at St. Peters Cultural Art Centre, Oak Leaf Artist Guild, Framations, St. Charles Community College and the Foundry Art Centre. Her work has won many local awards. Christine donates pieces to various charities and has done demonstrations for "Second Thursdays," "Make Art Day," "Art Uncorked" and Immanuel Lutheran School. She's looking forward to being our demonstrator at our November meeting!
